Maintaining and improving your website’s search engine optimization (SEO) can be exhausting. Every time search giant Google changes its algorithm, business owners and their webmasters are left with their heads spinning, trying to make adjustments so their sites don’t fall in Google’s search rankings.

While trying to keep on all of Google’s changes can be a hassle, there are a large number of SEO factors that are unlikely to change any time soon. To help make SEO just a little easier, digital marketing firms Backlinko and Single Grain have created the infographic below, collecting some 200 factors that Google considers when ranking sites in its search results. The information was compiled from hundreds of sources, including SEO blogs and from statements made by Google’s head of web spam, Matt Cutts.

What Google has confirmed is that they use about 200 ranking signals when determining organic search page rankings. There are domain factors, page-level factors, site-level factors, backlink factors, user interaction, special algorithm rules, social signals, brand signals, on-site web spam factors, off-page web spam factors

At first glance, the information here might seem a bit overwhelming for some business owners. But there are three factors that probably have the most effect on your site’s SEO:

Target keywords. It’s important to have your target keywords in your site’s title tags. Google relies on this tag to determine the topic of your page. Industry studies have shown that pages with their target keyword in the title tag tend to perform better than pages without.

Social Media: You might be surprised to know that five main companies, the biggest of those companies being Facebook – dominate the world of social media. Aside from the infamous Facebook website and mobile app, Facebook also owns Instagram and Whatsapp. In total Facebook.com is worth over $190 billion – it was founded in 2004, and has over 1 billion monthly users globally. Instagram and Whatsapp swell Facebook’s global monthly user figures to close to two billion – that’s just crazy!

Next on the list is the mighty Google – they own the Google Plus platform, along with YouTube, which Google purchased back in 2006. Google has a combined total of 1.54 billion active monthly users.

The third biggest name in the world of social media is Twitter, with 271 million active monthly users. LinkedIn follows twitter, with 187 million active monthly users, and finally Yahoo (who own Flickr and Tumblr).

Social media startups are still coming thick and fast, with the latest trend being image sharing. Sites like Pinterest and We Heart It are becoming increasingly popular – as are websites and apps like Snapchat, Ask FM and Kik messenger. Although these sites are universally popular, they appeal more to younger age brackets, key demographics in the battle for social media users.

Facebook tried to woo Snapchat – like they did with Instagram and Whatsapp– but the $3 billion offered by Facebook to the app’s owners was rejected. Social media is big business, but most of the deals and handshakes go on behind the scenes – leaving social media users to share, Like, tweet, reblog and publish their innermost thoughts in peace.

Google Plus is in line to surpass Facebook and become the most widely used social network in the world, which is why we decided to analyze its growth in terms of registered users, behavior and activity online (i.e. interacting with content in the stream by sharing or creating it).

The most striking statistics were put into an infographic in which we compare global data to the numbers relative to the UK market.

Here are few of the key findings (based on the Global Web Index data):

The number of active and registered users is growing quarter-by-quarter, but the % of active users is decreasing (51% in Q42012, 32% in Q42013) UK registered vs active users ratio is quite steady (around 30%) Mobile is having a great impact in Google plus usage: there are more than 200 million active users via mobile worldwide (that’s 56.2%) 62% of Google+ users are men, and the most active users are 25-34 (they represent 31%) The time spent on the stream is nearly doubled (3.30 min vs 6.47 min), but people are using Google+ mostly out of it (interacting through other Google’s services – i.e. Youtube) Every week 1.5 billion images are uploaded on Google plus 68% of Google+ users upload and share photos, 54% use the platform in order to stay in touch with their friends/contacts, 42% to interact with brands 70% of Top 100 Interbrands is using Google+
