How does it work, Google’s new Glass? Why can you see with it a sharp image-layer? How does the image overlay the image of reality? The following infographic illustrates the optical principle – very simple and easy to understand.
Google Glass is a technical masterpiece. It combines numerous functions and features in a very small unit. In addition to phone and camera (photo, video), it offers Internet connection, including GPS.
The core feature of Google Glass is a visual layer that is placed over the reality (“augmented reality“). This layer opens a door to amazing new possibilities. But how does it work? In the Google Glass contains a mini-projector, which projected the layer via a clever, semi-transparent prism directly on the retina in the eye.
Because of this the image, even though it is so close to the eye, is sharp and clear. You can move the front part of the Google Glass easily to optimize the focus.

Het Amerikaanse internetbedrijf Google wil een supersnel breedbandnetwerk bouwen. Daarmee moeten Amerikanen meer dan honderd keer sneller kunnen internetten dan ze nu doen. Dit liet de onderneming woensdag weten.
Google gaat de technologie op een aantal plekken in de Verenigde Staten testen.
De dienst wordt voor een ”concurrerende prijs” aan 50.000 tot 500.000 mensen aangeboden. Google spreekt van een experiment.
Het bedrijf hoopt inzicht te krijgen in wat aanbieders van internetdiensten en gebruikers met een snel netwerk kunnen doen.

Google Sets New Internet Traffic Record
In their earnings call last week, Google announced a record 2010 third-quarter revenue of $7.29 billion (up 23% from last year). The market rejoiced and Google shares shot past $615 giving the company a market cap of more than $195 billion.
Google Sets New Internet Traffic Record
This month, Google broke an equally impressive Internet traffic record — gaining more than 1% of all Internet traffic share since January. If Google were an ISP, as of this month it would rank as the second largest carrier on the planet.
Only one global tier1 provider still carries more traffic than Google (and this ISP also provides a large portion of Google’s transit).
In the graph below, I show a weighted average percentage of Internet traffic contributed by the search / mobile OS / video / cloud giant. As in earlier posts, the Google data comes from 110+ ISPs around the world participating in ATLAS. The multiple shaded colors represent different Google ASN and reflect ongoing global traffic engineering strategies. read more…

Today we received the Google+ Page verification!
What did we do?
1. Make a Google+ plus business page like: https://plus.google.com/107180689125646230035
2. Your Google+ page must be authorized by your commercial entity, organization, brand, or product.
3. Your Google+ page’s profile must contain a link to your organization’s website.
4. Your organization’s website must connect to your Google+ page, by adding the Google+ badge/snippet code
5. A meaningful number (± 1000) of people must have added your Google+ page to their circles.
6. You must be authorized to administer and verify the Google+ page for your organization.
7. All Google+ pages must comply with the Google Terms of Service and the Google+ Content/Conduct Policies
8. Completing the validation request form will not guarantee that your page will be verified.
9. Goto: http://goo.gl/PT5Ol to fill in the request form and wait for approval.
Google+ is a social networking service from Google. Google attempts to differentiate Google+ by allowing more transparency in who you share with and how you interact. It also integrates all Google services and displays a new Google+ menu bar on other Google services when you’re logged into a Google account.
Why would you go to all this trouble?
Simple, Google is using this for your SEO score and Pagerank.

Veel top sprekers geven hun visie op de ontwikkelingen en toekomst van search, ook Matt Cutts sprak woensdag tijdens zijn Super Session over: Search Engines and Webmasters – Bing – Google – Instant.
Tijdens zijn speech worden er veel interessante items besproken, hieronder enkele onderwerpen. Spam reports worden 4 keer sneller behandeld als in het verleden via: http://goo.gl/linkspam
Google weet dat er veel websites zijn die op de onjuiste manier een hoge ranking hebben nu. Vooral websites die het keyword bevatten worden extra bekeken, bijvoorbeeld www.keyword.nl. Google is druk met het maken van een oplossing. Google heeft 200 SEO ranking factoren en elke factor kan nog eens 50 variaties hebben.
In de loop van zijn speech laat hij een sheet zien met 9 SEO tips:
* SEO: Ga op zoek naar bezoekers, niet de algoritme
* Keywords: vraag ook je vrienden, collega’s, klanten naar de keywords die ze gebruiken om je te vinden.
* Blog: Plaats je belangrijkste links hoog in de pagina, er wordt het eerst op geklikt.
* Content: Lees je eigen content hardop en hoor wat je zegt als je het leest
* Twitter: Laat ruimte over voor je retweet “RT @BerriePelser”
* Video: Ga er één maken!
* Conversie: Test, Herhaal en leid de bezoekers naar de conversie.
* Zorg dat je eigenaar bent van je eigen domein
* Reageer op de email van Google in Google webmaster tools.

What Apple and Google are not Telling you About Mobile Device Security (infographic)
A mobile device (also known as a handheld device, handheld computer or simply handheld) is a small, hand-held computing device, typically having a display screen with touch input and/or a miniature keyboard and weighting less than 2 pounds (0.91 kg). Apple, HTC, LG, Motorola, Research in Motion (RIM), and Samsung are just a few examples of the many manufacturers that produce these types of devices.
A hand held computing device typically has an operating system (OS) platform, where application programming interfaces (API’s) also known as Apps that are available for different uses can operate on. Most hand held devices can also be equipped with WI-FI, Bluetooth and GPS capabilities that can allow connections to the Internet and other Bluetooth capable devices such as an automobile or a microphone headset. A camera or media player feature for video or music files can also be typically found on these devices along with a stable battery power source such as a lithium battery.
Welcome to the mobile business revolution. Along with any major insurgency, what previously seemed secure meets what suddenly makes it vulnerable.
Based on research from the most recent Unisys Security Index report, Unisysfound that business users are accessing critical corporate data via unprotected means such as public wifi and utilizing simple passwords. In addition, an increasing number of people are accessing their employers’ business applications using their personal devices.
And thanks to the flood of devices surging into the workplace from the BYOD movement, the world can suddenly climb through the thousands of security holes opened up by all those devices and apps.
Enterasys Networks was one of the first Security vendors to address this issue, and I suspect Unisys will follow suit. Companies like Good for Enterprise are providing a robust security wrapper around productivity applications, but it’s still not charged with protecting that rogue game downloaded by Henry in Marketing.
One thing is for sure, there’s going to be a lot of challenges for IT moving forward. Unisys has outlined a few of them in the infographic below:

Google doneert 2 miljoen dollar aan Wikipedia, de grootste som die de Wikimedia Foundation tot nog toe ineens van een bedrijf ontving. eBay-oprichter Pierre Omidyar schonk in juni als individu ook 2 miljoen dollar aan de organisatie.
Wikimedia, de organisatie achter internet-encyclopedie Wikipedia, draait nog altijd volledig op donaties van bedrijven en individuen. Volgens de woordvoerder zijn er ook geen plannen daar verandering in aan te brengen. Wikimedia Foundation heeft voor het fiscaal jaar dat in juni eindigt, een bedrag van 10,6 miljoen dollar aan inkomsten als doel gesteld. Met de donatie van Google komt de organisatie daar gemakkelijk overheen.
Het doel was ambitieus want voor het voorgaande jaar had Wikimedia nog 8,7 miljoen dollar als doel gesteld. De financiële crisis heeft donateurs blijkbaar niet doen afzien van een bijdrage. Op de Wikipedia-site heeft de organisatie enkele maanden fors aandacht gevraagd voor de financiële positie. In totaal droegen al 240.000 mensen hun steentje bij.
De internetencyclopedie telt inmiddels zo’n 14 miljoen lemma’s in 270 talen. Wikimedia’s grootste kostenpost is de infrastructuur van de Wikipedia-websites. Daarnaast heeft de organisatie zo’n 30 man personeel in dienst.
