Hosting, designing and maintaining a website can be done on a million way’s.
When we started with making websites in 1998 there were only e few way’s to design a website the most used was typing HTML4 in notepad.
Now we are almost 2013, business and internet did change a lot, HTML changed, WordPress, Typo3 and Magento got secure, stable and very usable.
Social Media became very important, customers are demanding security, services and high uptimes.

Uptime:
There are a lot of ways to improve your uptime, the three most important reasons for downtime are security, hardware and software failure. We use a private local (NL) Cloud (VMware) setup to reduce the single points of failure (SPF) in the hardware (Dell/Cisco), all hardware is redundant. We only use and support fully managed Linux/Plesk VPS in our Cloud. The security level is very high (later more on this) and the software we use is all open source. At this moment we have uptime numbers of > 99,90% the last two years.
Service and Helpdesk:
We monitor and log our Cloud and VPS servers 24/7 on every single service running on the Cloud 24 hours per day. If something goes wrong there are engineers ready to fix this ASAP. We make daily offsite back-ups for emergency purposes. We answer question via mail within 24 hours. Customers have our mobile emergency numbers. Read more …
Security, Monitoring and Trust:
The Cloud and all VPS servers are PCI-Compliant and behind firewalls. The virtualization layer and the OS layer running on our own hardened kernels. All servers have their own SSL certificate, my own website has an EV SSL certificate. We monitor and log our Cloud and VPS servers 24/7 on every single service running on the Cloud 24 hours per day. Customers are only getting back-end (editor level) access to their websites, so we do not give out SSH, FTP or Plesk access. We handle this tasks for the end-user if necessary. We make daily back-ups an monitor all IP numbers on RBL e.d. We are working with Web of Trust (WOT), Comodo (EV SSL), TrustCloud.com and Trust-Guard.com.
WordPress CMS:
We use WordPress (and Typo3 for large companies) for a CMS website, we work with WordPress a long time and have a lot of experience with it. WordPress has it all, Security, Custom and Theme designs, Plugins, CMS, Weblog, SEO ready, Social Media ready, easy to use, cheap and always’ s up-to-date. We maintain WordPress, the Theme/Template design and all Plugins, so we take care of all upgrades and updates. Vraagtekens bij storage management in de cloud.
Veel verwarring rond verschillende vormen van dataopslag
Vraag een aantal mensen wat cloud storage is en je krijgt waarschijnlijk van iedereen een ander antwoord. Niet zo gek eigenlijk als je bedenkt dat er verschillende vormen van opslag in een cloudomgeving door de diverse marktpartijen worden aangeboden. Om tot een goede keuze te komen volgt hier een uitleg wat de verschillende vormen van storage in de cloud inhouden.
Voor we dieper ingaan op de verschillende mogelijkheden van storage in de cloud ingaan eerst een korte algemene beschrijving van dit fenomeen. Cloud storage is een gebruiksmodel waarbij je betaalt voor wat je gebruikt. Gebruikersgroepen of bedrijven kunnen, wanneer nodig, online opslagruimte inzetten. Deze vorm van dataopslag is schaalbaar. Op elk moment kunnen klanten de storagecapaciteit afstemmen op hun behoefte. Ze hebben toegang tot de cloud-opslag via internet.
Een belangrijke reden voor verwarring bij opslag in de cloud is het verschil tussen Public Storage Clouds en Private Storage Clouds. De Public Storage Cloud is een dienst waarbij de afnemer na afloop betaalt voor de gebruikte opslagcapaciteit. De cloud-omgeving wordt gehost buiten de firewall of het kantoor van de klant. Public Storage Clouds zijn toegankelijk via een webinterface. Dat betekent dat de klant hiervoor geen hardware- of software-infrastructuur hoeft te hebben. Klanten betalen bijvoorbeeld per maand voor de gebruikte gigabytes storagecapaciteit en de extra bandbreedte die ze gebruiken voor het ontvangen en verzenden van data.
Het alternatief is een Private Storage Cloud. Deze besloten opslag-cloud wordt meestal intern gehost, binnen de firewall. Hierbij gebruikt een organisatie de eigen hardware en software. De ict-afdeling beheert alle data binnen de infrastructuur. Voordelen hiervan zijn, dat de klant profiteert van schaalbaarheid en flexibiliteit zonder dat hij de controle over zijn bedrijfsdata en -informatie uit handen geeft.
Wanneer cloud storage?
Cloud storage is het meest geschikt voor ongestructureerde bestandsdata of archiefgegevens die een bedrijf voor langere tijd moet opslaan. Voorbeelden hiervan zijn medische dossiers, creditcard- en hypotheekaanvragen. Voor real-time inzage of transacties van block-gebaseerde data is deze variant minder geschikt, omdat internet merkbare vertragingen veroorzaakt.
Back-up- en archiveringsapplicaties zijn eveneens uitermate geschikt voor gebruik in de cloud. Als organisaties belangrijke gegevens liever niet in de cloud willen opslaan, kunnen ze cloud storage gebruiken. Deze dienst biedt ze de infrastructuur die vereist is voor alle langetermijnback-up- en archiveringsbehoeften.
Uitdagingen
Organisaties moeten wel rekening houden met een aantal factoren voordat ze de cloud voor back-up of storage gaan gebruiken. We gaan er in dit geval vanuit dat ze beschikken over voldoende bandbreedte en een netwerkinfrastructuur.
Er is echter ook het beveiligingsvraagstuk. Dit is met name belangrijk voor organisaties in sectoren waar strikte regels gelden. Want kan een bedrijf wel de volledige controle houden over zijn databack-up en -opslag? Is er een audit mogelijk en kunnen ze voldoen aan de juridische eisen? Wij zijn dergelijke uitdagingen al tegengekomen in de praktijk. Vooral bedrijven waarvan de medewerkers Facebook en Hyves gebruiken, kampen met deze beveiligingsproblematiek. Wanneer het gebruik van dergelijke social emedia leidt tot ontslagprocedures, is het voor de werkgever bijzonder lastig om de activiteiten van medewerkers te volgen. Deze vinden namelijk plaats buiten het bedrijfsnetwerk, maar hebben wel veel invloed op de dagelijkse bedrijfsvoering en het bedrijfsmerk.
Het is mogelijk om schadelijke social media-activiteiten te blokkeren door middel van een firewall. Grotere organisaties met grid-computing of gebruiksmodel kunnen bijvoorbeeld een eigen cloud creëren. Maar ook in dit geval spelen er uitdagingen op beveiligingsgebied, vooral wanneer de ‘interne’ cloud dreigt uit te groeien tot een nieuw eindpunt. Lees hier verder…

Het gebrek aan duidelijke regels en voorwaarden staat een grootschalig gebruik van cloud computing in de weg. De Europese Unie kan door institutionalisering en regulering een aantal barrières wegnemen. Hier ligt een belangrijke taak voor Neelie Kroes, de nieuwe eurocommissaris voor de Digitale Agenda. Dit concludeert adviesbureau METRI Group naar aanleiding van een onderzoek onder zijn klanten.
METRI Group, een Nederlands managementadvieskantoor voor benchmarking, sourcing en governance, constateert na een onderzoek onder tweehonderd klanten dat zo’n 80 procent overweegt om cloud computing in te zetten. De voortschrijdende technologische ontwikkeling ervan, – virtuele computers, opslag en netwerken – speelt hierbij een belangrijke rol. Nieuwe leveranciers van computerhosting introduceren zakelijke modellen met onder meer facturatie van opslag- en computergebruik op transactiebasis.
Maar, stelt METRI tevens vast, er bestaat nog drempelvrees. Toekomstige gebruikers weten niet altijd goed hoe ze de voordelen van cloud computing kunnen aanwenden. Daarbij vormen privacy, veiligheid, potentiële juridische en fiscale aspecten, grensoverschrijdende dienstverlening, aansprakelijkheden in de dienstverleningsketen en standaardisatie van communicatievormen nog een sta-in-de-weg voor grootschalige acceptatie.
