Hostingprovider

Een Hostingprovider is een aanbieder van webruimte, webdiensten en het onderhoud van bestanden voor websites in het bezit van individuelen of bedrijven, die zelf geen eigen webserver hebben.

Veel ISP’s (internet service providers), geven klanten de mogelijkheid om zelf een persoonlijk webpagina te hebben. Andere commerciële ISP’s vragen een prijs voor deze service. Er ook mensen die (nog steeds) gratis deze dienst verlenen, al dan niet met plaatsing van een banner op de site.

Een webhost of hosting provider is een partij die (web) hosting diensten aanbiedt. Deze diensten kunnen bijvoorbeeld bestaan uit het bieden van domeinregistraties, email ondersteuning en een stukje webruimte.

Voor al deze diensten maakt een hosting provider gebruik van een server (een computer geoptimaliseerd voor het communiceren met het internet). Deze staat meestal in een geconditioneerde serverruimte via een firewall en switch op een supersnelle verbinding met het internet.

Stichting Hostmerk Nederland: In februari 2005 is Stichting Hostmerk Nederland (SHN) opgericht. Het doel van de stichting luidt: “het oprichten, instandhouden en uitgeven van een keurmerk voor internetbedrijven in Nederland alsmede het verzorgen van arbitrage op internetgebied, en voorts al hetgeen met een en ander rechtstreeks of zijdelings verband houdt of daartoe bevorderlijk kan zijn, alles in de ruimste zin des woords.” Bedrijven (hostingproviders) welke bij deze stichting aangesloten zijn zijn onderworpen aan een gedragscode en kwaliteits eisen m.b.t. de infrastruktuur.

How Facebook Factors Into Decisions On Retail Purchases, Restaurants

A study of the impact of mobile and social media habits of more than 6,500 U.S. consumers when making decisions on retail purchases or restaurants found that nearly three-quarters of respondents consult Facebook in making those decisions, while one-half have tried new brands due to recommendations via social media.

The study, from customer experience management solutions provider Empathica, also found that:

  • 55 percent of respondents were willing to like brands on Facebook, but women (64 percent) were more likely to do so than men (47 percent).
  • About 89 percent of respondents who shared positive experiences with brands via social media in the past three months also liked brands on Facebook, while just 36 percent of those who did not share positive experiences with brands via social media in the past three months did so.
  • 82 percent of respondents were willing to engage retail and restaurant brands in online conversations if they believed it would improve future experiences, but only 62 percent believe brands monitor online conversations, and just 30 percent believe brands act on customer feedback.

And if you’re pretty sure you’re not any of these things, you might just be a Denier.

A survey by online bank First Direct has determined that there are 12 unique personality types across users of social media, including Ultras, who are obsessed with checking Facebook and Twitter, Dippers, who are infrequent users, Peacocks, who love to show off their popularity and Ghosts, who are crave privacy and anonymity.

And Deniers? These are the folks who claim that social media doesn’t control their lives, when the reality is very different.

“A lot of people admit to behaving very differently in social media to how they behave in the ‘real world’,” said Rebecca Dye, social media manager at First Direct. “It’s important we’re aware of that when we’re dealing with customers through a variety of channels.”

Respondents to a recent survey on annoying ads have reported losing sleep and even assaulting their hardware after reading yet another email from a pen pal in a foreign land who needs them to transfer some money.

Although a greater number of Americans (60 percent) are annoyed by television commercials than internet ads, the newer medium is on the rise, with 55 percent who are finding annoying ads in their inboxes and 37 percent who say they are happening on social media.

The most offensive kinds are:

  • Pop-up ads – 70%
  • Lottery scams – 70%
  • Male enhancement ads – 66%
  • Emails from deceased African leaders who have left them money – 64%
  • Ads for products and services they do not need – 58%
  • Female enhancement ads – 54%

4. Make a database and use strong passwords (1,2 and 3)
5. Copy the AUTH Key's from: https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/ (4)
6. Use a custom prefix_ for the database (5)
7. Install WordPress and use a different user as the default "ADMIN" and use a psw with 21 chars like above
8. Update your version of WordPress and update all used plugins to the newest versions
9. Monitor your website and make sure you have daily back-ups off-site

What can you (or your hosting provider) do yourself to secure your WordPress:

1. Install: Simple Login Lockdown
Simple login lock down is a way to protect your WordPress blog from brute force login attacks. How it works: 1. An attacker attempts to login and fails 2. Simple Login Lockdown record that failed login 3. After a certain number of failed attemps (defaults to five), further attemps to access the wp-login.php page are blocked for a time (defaults to one hour). If you happen to forget your password and make a failed login attemp yourself, the plugin will clear out the lockdown count data on successful login.

2. Install: Duo WordPress (better leave this to your Webmaster/Hosting Provider)
Duo Security provides two-factor authentication as a service to protect against account takeover and data theft. Using the Duo plugin you can easily add Duo two-factor authentication to your WordPress website in just a few minutes! Rather than relying on a password alone, which can be phished or guessed, Duo's authentication service adds a second layer of security to your WordPress accounts. Duo enables your admins or users to verify their identities using something they have—like their mobile phone or a hardware token—which provides strong authentication and dramatically enhances account security.

Only 20 percent of American consumers’ time on mobile devices is spent on the web. A massive majority, 80 percent, is spent in apps: games, news, productivity, utility, and social networking apps.

Turns out, it’s an app world, after all.

According to app analytics firm Flurry, which tracks app usage on a staggering 300,000 apps on over a billion active mobile devices, we spend an average of 158 minutes each and every day on our smartphones and tablets.

Two hours and seven minutes of that is in an app, and only 31 minutes is in a browser, surfing the old-school web.

Hoe verklein je foto’s in bulk voor je website?

U kent het wel, u maakt foto’s met een digitale camera met 12 mega pixels en de originele afbeeldingen zijn 5MB groot dus ongeschikt voor op de website, hoe krijg je nu allemaal tegelijkertijd kleiner zodat ze geschikt zijn voor de website zonder kwaliteit te verliezen?

Verklein afbeeldingen/foto’s in bulk: 

01. Download en instaleer IrvanView
02. Open IrvanView en kies voor “Batch Conversion/Rename

03. Een nieuw venster wordt geopend

04. Bij “Work as“, links boven, kies voor “Batch conversion – Rename result files
05. Bij Batch conversion settings, kies voor “JPG -JPG/JPEG Format
06. Klik op de “Options” knop, een nieuw venster wordt geopend

07. Kopieer de settings van dit venster (zet de “Save quality” op 90 of hoger) en klik op de “OK” knop
08. Zet een vinkje bij “Use advanced options (for bulk rezise…)” en klik op de “Advanced” knop
09. Een nieuw venster opent

10. Kopieer de settings van dit venster, en klik op de “OK” knop
11. Vul een eigen naam in bij “Batch rename settings” Name pattern: uwnaam_jaartal_####
12. Klik nu op de “Browse” knop en ga naar de folder op je eigen harde schijf waar je de foto’s wil opslaan.
13. Klik de dropdown “Zoeken in:”, rechter kant boven en gaan naar de plek waar de originele foto’s staan
14. Selecteer de foto’s die je wil verkleinen en klik op de “Add” knop

15. De bestanden verschijnen nu onder in bij “Input files: (9)
16. Klik nu links onder op de “Start Batch” knop, een nieuw venster opent
17. Het nieuwe venster zal laten zien hoe de batch gaat en zal de eventuele fouten melden
18. De foto’s zijn nu allemaal verkleint en klaar voor web gebruik
