SEO – The Evolution of Search and SEO, an Infographic

These days Google makes around 500 improvements to its algorithm in a year and searches over 60 trillion individual pages on the web to deliver the best results possible in just a few seconds. Its main goal is to bring you the most relevant information in the shortest amount of time

Search has been improving since the very first engine, named Archie, was introduced to the world in 1990. By 1993 the world’s first web robot had been invented, but it wasn’t until 1994 when WebCrawler launched that the future of search engines changed forever. By allowing users to search for any word on a web page using crawlers, WebCrawler set a precedent that every major search engine has followed since.

It wasn’t until the mid 90s that SEO started gaining momentum. That’s when webmasters and digi-pioneers started realising that optimisation could be a powerful ranking tool. What started out as a simple technique to get websites to rank better became a global multibillion dollar industry that’s still growing today.

Back in the day, when you typed a phrase into a search engine, it would identify keywords in that phrase and only display results which contained them. Now, semantic search algorithms have given search engines the ability to not only make word associations, but to identify context and intent – quite similar to the human brain. For example – Google knows there is a connection between the words New and York, or that when you type the word ‘Jaguar’ into the search bar, you could be looking for the predatory feline or the luxury car.

SEO has evolved along with a number

Social Media Cheat Sheet on Word Science – infographic

Social Media Cheat Sheet on Word Science – infographic

It is interesting to know that creating shareable post or content is a scientific process and follows certain principles. Social media platforms are now used for marketing by manufacturers and marketers. Like any online marketing site these are informative, inspiring and interactive. It invites viewers to participate in activities like taking part in competitions, invite opinions, and share viewpoints.

Social Media Cheat Sheet

In this online activity, the use of certain words is important. It has been observed that certain words carry a greater impact on readers than others. Companies that use social networking sites for online marketing should make conscious efforts for using these specific words. It has also been found that these networking sites have their respective cache of preferred ‘click-me’ phrases and words.

FaceBook keywords Users of FaceBook are particularly familiar with words such as ‘likes’, ‘comments’, ‘share’, ‘warns’, ‘encourages’, ‘suggestions’, ‘unites’, ‘entertains’, and ‘grants’. Use of these words or terms only does not determine the quality of your webpage. Content in general should be informative and encouraging so that readers come back again and again. Inclusion of photos is another way of improving viewer traffic to your FaceBook page. Here it needs to be noted that for established business houses a rich content attracts more visitors, while for a smaller of new company use of photographs or images is a better option.

Twitter keywords The list of preferred keywords for social networking site Twitter is lengthier. These selected list of words are ‘check it out’, ‘how to’, ‘blog post’, ‘new blog post’, ‘post’, ‘help’, ‘great’, ‘media’, ‘free’, ‘social media’, ‘top 5’, ‘top 10’, ‘follow’, ‘retweet’, and ‘twitter’. Google’s 200 Search Ranking Factors in an Infographic

Google’s 200 Search Ranking Factors in an Infographic

Maintaining and improving your website’s search engine optimization (SEO) can be exhausting. Every time search giant Google changes its algorithm, business owners and their webmasters are left with their heads spinning, trying to make adjustments so their sites don’t fall in Google’s search rankings.

Search Ranking Factors

While trying to keep on all of Google’s changes can be a hassle, there are a large number of SEO factors that are unlikely to change any time soon. To help make SEO just a little easier, digital marketing firms Backlinko and Single Grain have created the infographic below, collecting some 200 factors that Google considers when ranking sites in its search results. The information was compiled from hundreds of sources, including SEO blogs and from statements made by Google’s head of web spam, Matt Cutts.

What Google has confirmed is that they use about 200 ranking signals when determining organic search page rankings. There are domain factors, page-level factors, site-level factors, backlink factors, user interaction, special algorithm rules, social signals, brand signals, on-site web spam factors, off-page web spam factors

At first glance, the information here might seem a bit overwhelming for some business owners. But there are three factors that probably have the most effect on your site’s SEO:

Target keywords. It’s important to have your target keywords in your site’s title tags. Google relies on this tag to determine the topic of your page. Industry studies have shown that pages with their target keyword in the title tag tend to perform better than pages without.

Backlinks. Focus on building quality links pointing to your site. Although link quality is important, the total number of links pointing to your site is

Social Media

Social Media: You might be surprised to know that five main companies, the biggest of those companies being Facebook – dominate the world of social media. Aside from the infamous Facebook website and mobile app, Facebook also owns Instagram and Whatsapp. In total Facebook.com is worth over $190 billion – it was founded in 2004, and has over 1 billion monthly users globally. Instagram and Whatsapp swell Facebook’s global monthly user figures to close to two billion – that’s just crazy!

Next on the list is the mighty Google – they own the Google Plus platform, along with YouTube, which Google purchased back in 2006. Google has a combined total of 1.54 billion active monthly users.

The third biggest name in the world of social media is Twitter, with 271 million active monthly users. LinkedIn follows twitter, with 187 million active monthly users, and finally Yahoo (who own Flickr and Tumblr).

Social media startups are still coming thick and fast, with the latest trend being image sharing. Sites like Pinterest and We Heart It are becoming increasingly popular – as are websites and apps like Snapchat, Ask FM and Kik messenger. Although these sites are universally popular, they appeal more to younger age brackets, key demographics in the battle for social media users.

Facebook tried to woo Snapchat – like they did with Instagram and Whatsapp– but the $3 billion offered by Facebook to the app’s owners was rejected. Social media is big business, but most of the deals and handshakes go on behind the scenes – leaving social media users to share, Like, tweet, reblog and publish their innermost thoughts in peace.

Which Social Media Platforms are the best for your Business?

With your limited resources, which social media platforms would you pick?

If you think Facebook and YouTube are your best bets because they are most popular, think again. Just because a site is popular doesn’t mean it is a good fit for you business.

To help you decide which social media platforms is best suited for your business, I’ve created an infographic that explains what social sites you should be leveraging based on real data.

1. Twitter: Twitter is the dominant democracy of the social-sharing economy. Relevancy, personality and brevity are the keys to making your voice heard.

2. LinkedIn: LinkedIn is the online analog to old fashioned networking. People – and connections to people – are everything

3. Facebook: Facebook offers personal connection and an enjoyable distraction amidst the work day, but use typically peaks outside of work hours. There’s no shortage of options for analyzing Facebook data. Track the success of your content by date and time to hone in on the best times for engaging your audience.

4. Google+: As Google’s proposed alternative to Facebook, keywords and search engine optimization are central to the appeal of Google+. Link often to content on your own website to direct this search boost where you want it most.

Social Media Network

A social networking service or social media network is a platform to build social networks or social relations among people who share interests, activities, backgrounds or real-life connections.

A social network service consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his social links, and a variety of additional services.

Social networks are web-based services that allow individuals to create a public profile, to create a list of users with whom to share connections, and view and cross the connections within the system.

Social Media Strategy

How much time does social media marketing take out of your work day?

It’s no surprise that social media takes up a larger part of a marketer’s day than it did even a year ago. The addition of social networks your company needs to have a presence on and keep updated is growing out of control, leaving many marketers drowning in the increased time and investment required.

However, the massive amount of time marketers are dedicating to social media these days is no indication that they are doing it right. In fact, I would bet that in most cases the more time a marketer spends on social media, the less likely they are to actually have a strategy at all. Many marketers don’t know how to tackle the mountain that is social media and wind up wasting a lot of time haphazardly updating and monitoring their social presence.

Social media strategy is the deployment and development of modern strategic plans for social media. A Social media strategy incorporates these new ways of communication where media is not only broadcast but also shared, commented, opined edited or modified by the public at large.

A winning social media strategy is all about working smarter, not harder. Unless you are an enterprise level company, all you need to truly rock your social media is 30 minutes a day. With automation tools like Pardot to take care of many of the time-consuming and repetitive tasks, all that you need is a well defined daily plan and some self discipline.

Pinterest followers

Pinterest is a rapidly expanding online social network. It now connects over 70 million users. As a result, Pinterest provides an excellent interactive platform through which you can promote your business. Research shows that users who were notified of products on Pinterest spent 70% more money on those products than users who were referred from other online networks. Capitalize upon this lucrative audience and your business enterprise is sure to flourish.

What is Pinterest? In simple terms, Pinterest is a pin board style photo sharing website which enables users to create and manage theme-based image collections of hobbies, services or interests. Users can browse neighbouring pin boards for images, re-pin these images to their own pin boards, or like and comment upon photos. You can affiliate your business with this quirky method of social networking by following a series of simple processes;

Sharing relevant content Firstly, analyze which are the most popular pins currently on Pinterest. This will permit you to learn about the types of products or services in which users are interested and which they share across Pinterest. If any of these trends are applicable to your business, you can subsequently tailor your Pinterest content in order to contribute and affiliate yourself with these current trends.

For example, if your business offers services or products associated with the motoring industry, such as Jardine Motors who use Pinterest, you can post interesting pins of vehicles which are currently popular on Pinterest, or if you are a florist such as Kemsley Flowers, you can post interesting pins of flowers. By associating elements of your business with popular trends, users will be more likely to take notice of
